Mikkeli Region Centre of Expertise - Plastic Composites and Thin Film Coatings Mikkeli Region Centre of Expertise strengthens the renewal and international competitiveness of Finnish industry and promotes the birth of technology intensive new business. The centre of expertise fosters applied research, product development and commercialization of thin film coating technologies and new materials for plastic composite and environmental technologies.
Mikkeli region takes part in two national clusters of the Centre of Expertise Programme:
Nanotechnology Cluster
- R&D of functional thin film coatings and their commercial applications
- Applications in several fields of technology: energy, optics, electronics and microelectronics, chemistry and mechanics, pharmacy, process industry and biotechnology
Forest Industry Future Cluster
- Design, simulation and testing of new combined structures containing plastic-wood composites
- Part of the renewal process of the Finnish wood industry combining it with the latest expertise in composite technology
