Seminar: MIICS 2010, Mikkeli, 17.-19.3.2010

Top experts from the world of surface coating will be converging on Mikkeli in South Savo for the ten year anniversary of the Mikkeli International Industrial Coating Seminar - MIICS 2010.

This biennial event focuses on the role of nanometre-scale technology in enhancing the performance, reducing the cost and lowering the environmental impact of materials used in products. These can range from increasing the efficiency of solar energy collection, increasing the durability of polymers to reducing wear and friction in engines and an enormous number of other applications. These developments are critical to the future of industrial production and particularly to a country such as Finland which depends on the quality of its products and manufacturing processes.

World-renowned speakers will be present include, among many others,

  • Prof. Jeon Han from Korea discussing high rate silicon film deposition processes
  • Prof. Martin Andritchsky from Portugal talking about solar thermal energy collection
  • Prof Jindrich Musil from the Czech Rebublic on nanocomposite materials
  • Prof Erich Bergmann from Switzerland presenting his work on decorative coatings
  • Prof. Ivan Petrov from the USA on self-organised nanostructures.

The Finnish representation includes

  • Prof. Markku Leskela from Helsinki University giving a paper on industrial applications

of atomic layer deposition

  • Prof. Kenneth Holmberg from VTT who specialises in wear and friction behaviour.

MIICS 2010 will be held on the Main campus of Mikkeli University of Applied Sciences (MAMK) and in Anttolanhovi.

The Seminar Chairman is David Cameron, Professor of Materials Technology, LUT.

MIICS 2010 is arranged by Mikkeli University of Applied Sciences, Lappeenranta University of Technology, Savcor, Savo Solar Ltd and Mikpolis Ltd in cooperation with the Nanotecnology Cluster Programme and Miktech Ltd.
